Proper Care and Maintenance for Your Tires

Your tires require regular maintenance in order to make your vehicle perform the way it is supposed to and for the tire to reach the manufacturer's treadwear warranty. In fact, failure to follow proper care and maintenance can void all manufacturer's warranties. Ensure that your tires last as long as they should and keep your vehicle safe and running efficiently by following the recommended maintenance below:

Regularly Check Tire Inflation

  • properly inflated tires can: maximize treadlife, improve handling, braking and traction, increase fuel efficiency and improve safety
  • underinflated tires create more friction and therefore excess heat which increases the likelyhood of failure
  • underinflation can lead to premature tire wear, decreased fuel economy and poor braking and handling

Regularly Rotate Tires

  • have your tire rotated every 5-8,000 miles in order to maintain even wear for front and rear tires
  • follow suggested rotation patterns based on your vehicles characteristics
  • not performing regular tire rotations can cause premature wear on only 2 of your 4 tires which creates odd number tire replacements (whenever possible all 4 tires should be replaced at once)
  • regular rotations will also allow for preventative brake inspections to give you a heads up on when your brakes will need replacement

Regularly Check Front End and Vehicle Alignment

  • worn out steering or suspension parts can also cause premature wear and regular inspections can prevent this
  • the vehicle's alignment should also be checked every 12-24 months to prevent uneven wear
    • tire wear and handling issues are one way to see if the alignment may be off but the only way to know for sure is to check with a professional alignment machine
    • front end parts also need to be in good condition before an alignment check can even be performed
